Description
These ear bones, or Otoliths, come from wild caught halibut in Sitka, Alaska. Like a tree, otoliths have rings representing the age of the fish. Each bone is unique. No two are alike, even if they come from the same fish. They also hold insight on where the fish was born and the environmental conditions it lived in throughout its life. Chemical compositions, unique to different water, effect the make up of the otolith allowing researchers to identify the fish's whereabouts.
*Please note, due to the uniqueness of each otolith, your otoliths may not look exactly as pictured.
*Jewelry care:
We strongly recommend removing your jewelry before engaging in any activities that can lead to contact with moisture (for example showering) to maintain luster and prolong life. This can cause tarnishing.
Otoliths can be fragile and can break if dropped, please handle with care.
